Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

I'm still coming to grips with voltage in the context of 12v car batteries and what the consquences (if any) of a sub-12v reading are. I understand a "healthy" 12v car battery is deemed to read 12.6v or 2.1v per cell - this being the ideal static reading after any "surface charge"...

I could not find this EFB battery on eBay. Will there be an alternative? BM2 reports 11.85 V clamp voltage 😭 That's a shame ...

Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

I made sure the battery clamp didn’t press or pinch the BT2 cable - the middle of the clamp actually rises slightly so the cable is free to move underneath. I’m keeping tabs on the BT2 history to compare with the readings taken for the old Panasonic which was clearly on its last legs but, interestin...

Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

..... and for those who may be thinking "what did the new EFB 048 read when tested?" here you go:

You'll note that out of the box the CCA figure is 75A higher than rated or +16% (btw Tayna pack their batteries superbly, aswell as delivering within 24 hours)

Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

For those not familiar with these 12v battery testers (v. useful kit) here's a key for the 2nd photo:

SOH = State of Health (*even a brand new battery is never 100% - usually 97-98% at best)
SOC = State of Charge
RES = Internal Resistance (the lower the better)

Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

Following on from my earlier post (and EEEE's inspiration) rather than 'go large' I found a suitable replacement of 55Ah rating and of near identical size from Tayna here in the UK. https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/enduroline/048-efb/ This is an "Enhanced Flooded Battery (EFB)" design...

Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

Well, what can I say EEEE - thank you for the comprehensive 'how I did it' guide. I really appreciate it. I don't mind undertaking a little 'finagling' to get things to fit/work so will dig out the cordless Dremel. I have an extendable magnetic pen which has proven to be one of the most useful gadge...

Re: Panasonic 12v OE battery testing.

" I decided to replace my 12v battery with a larger capacity one at my cost (Yuasa 5000 series 005 size - necessitating removal of the battery tray and using a bigger battery retaining clamp ). " I regard myself as fortunate as the original Panasonic battery remains in rude health (3 years...
