Please explain: the app is basically a link to a Java-script based website?
Yuk!

Does anybody know how the Japanese app is working? I assume that this is proper software...

Unfortunately this is done too often to create multiple platform apps.
In my opinion it’s bad practice, because one should follow platform UI guidelines for a good user experience. You can also benefit from native APIs.

This kind of app has always been, and always will be, a bad idea.

Hopefully we will see native apps coming at some stage.

Apparently, the Japanese app doesn't have good reviews either....

Software updates / OTA are very important... Honda must pay more interest in improving them...

Those are reviews complaining that the app didn't work just after IOS14 was released, so not really indicative of whether the app was any good prior.
