Hi everyone! I'm really interesting in the e, but I'm not sure if I can charge it at home.
We've got an external bank of garages, but they do have electricity. Currently, I've got two power sockets, and a light switch. From what I my untrained eyes can tell, the wiring looks in good shape. Someone told me that the breaker might need to be upgraded or something if I'd like a charge point to be installed. I've read that charging with a three-point plug isn't advisable, especially long term.
Would I need a specialist to come out and assess this, or can any local electrician be able to know if it's possible?
Hello from Hampshire
Hello back to you Thundarian and welcome
FWIW I've been charging my e using one of the 3-pin sockets in my integral garage since I took delivery two weeks ago, as I did for the previous 8 years of ownership of a Mitsubishi i-MiEV (also a rear wheel drive 'city car' with a battery capacity half that of the Honda). It's a slow slow charge, about 7miles of range an hour but that doesn't matter to me, I don't get out much
The 3-pin plug can get warm, so to be on the safe side I have a fan directed at it at the same time. Never had a problem in all those years. The house was rewired at the same time as I got the Mitsubishi so I know the wiring is ok.
In case anyone is wondering why I didn't get a dedicated charger installed at the same time as the rewire - I did, a Rolec tethered Type 1 connector, but it never worked properly, used to trip after about 15mins, so I gave up and just used the granny cable.
Obviously you should get a properly qualified electrician to advise about your specific situation. But I haven't had a problem using a 3-pin socket long term.

The 3 pin cable was included with the Honda e right?Jaws wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 5:51 pm Hello back to you Thundarian and welcome

I think it depends on the country (or the dealership?): In Germany (or at my dealer) the Mode-3 cable is not included in the purchase price (but the floor mats are)...

Denmark: Haven't received my car yet but have been promised both mode-2, mode-3 cables and mats. I haven't even asked for it, I think that's pretty standard here.

It isn’t. I’ve been unable to get any cables, and the rest is all a pending discussion due to the dealer not having prices or supply info when I ordered...Left4Cookies wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 9:13 am Denmark: Haven't received my car yet but have been promised both mode-2, mode-3 cables and mats.
