Launched in Europe first to avoid fines from the EU as every car maker needs to have a certain numbers of low emission vehicles. I don't think they reached that goal in the end as they partnered with Tesla.

I noticed that the driving mode 'Normal' (and EV Menu) is shown in english which seems odd considering everything else appears to be displayed in Japanese, is this standard practice?

This Famicom is not original. It will be a new model sold in November 2016. It is palm-sized and has 30 software installed. I was able to use it with e by supplying power with an HDMI cable and usb.
