Thanks Milligoon.
But, as a matter of technical principle, would you connect the negative clamp to the negative terminal of the battery itself? I read somewhere that you shouldn't do that, so on my Mazda, I connected it to a clamp near to but not on the battery. Thanks.
12v auxiliary battery charging
Okay - I've realised that I have an m6 socket and eyelet set which came with the Ctek unit - doh, I'm blaming the heat!milligoon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 11:11 am Get the socket with terminals on for the CTEK then fix to battery they come in a range ring terminal sizes.
No bulky clips then to ping off

Next simpleton's question please - do I need to disconnect the battery to fit the eyelets safely ?
TIA - I'll get there in the end
I have a Ctek 5amp charger and I attach it using the crocodile clips direct to the battery terminals. I've done this once a week, every week for nearly two years, and I've not had any problems (well, not until I had a charge unit fail recently so I couldn't charge the Li-ion battery pack - but I don't think that was caused by the 12V battery charging ).Parker87 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 9:31 am A quick bump on this topic please.
I'm collecting my E next week and I've been in the habit of keeping the 12V on my current EV topped up in situ by using a Ctek 5.0 charger. I'd like to do the same with my E but am wondering where people are attaching the Negative clip of their chargers? Any advice would be much appreciated. TIA.
The small terminal post nuts can be removed without causing disconnects as the present cabling unless fiddled with seems to be resting on the posts quite securely, I recently fitted a battery monitor and had no issues.Parker87 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 8:28 amOkay - I've realised that I have an m6 socket and eyelet set which came with the Ctek unit - doh, I'm blaming the heat!milligoon wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 11:11 am Get the socket with terminals on for the CTEK then fix to battery they come in a range ring terminal sizes.

Guys, sorry to read of these issues. Worth checking out post BM2 Battery Monitor. Since having one installed and a new 12V under warrantee I understand a little more how to “manage” your 12V battery.
When you PowerUp your car, the 12V immediately starts charging at either 14+Volts or may drop to 13+V. Also whenever you plug in and charger High Voltage main battery, your 12V will recharge.
So rather than use a Battery Charger, simply “top up” your HV 5-10% - I do this if and when BM2 tells me 12V is in low State of Charge - typically 60% and voltage has dropped 12.0V
It only takes a couple of days of non-use, and/or when I drive out of garage to clean and drive it back again. Headlights, displays etc soon drain the 12V - sad but true.

Update: 5 Aug
Went for a short local trip yesterday, with a free “top up” charge at a local nursery, and checked my 12V SoC this morning. Already low, although not critical and I am using car today, so it will get topped up. I have Location Data Sharing OFF because we have rubbish mobile signal here, and don't want car hunting to connect to Honda. Ok, Battery Monitor will cause some drain, but surely the 12V should cope. Will disconnect BM2 at some point and see if that helps.
