Judging by this video Honda e in Japan range is close to 280 km per charge. I have a feeling that they don't have bigger battery. I think it's "unlocked" to use all 35kWh not 28,5 kWh as we have in Europe. Not sure why though. I'm sure Honda would get more sales with 280 km (about 170 miles) range.

Just checked in Honda Japan website and their ranges are bigger. Also reading specification seems that battery is the same. Japanese spec don't have kWh mentioned but cell count (192) is the same.

If the battery remains the same size at 35kwh, even if unlocked allowing for 100% use, its still hard to see how they reach those mileage numbers.
Taking the lowest number of 259km. which equates to 160 miles, that's an efficiency of 4.57 miles/kwh. Other than a continuous downhill drive, I cant see how that number can be achieved in the real world. For me anything between 2.9 to 3.8 miles/kwh seems to be the norm.
Maybe Japanese electricity is just more powerful !!!

At 50ºc The battery capacity may increase up to 12%.... They've set it on fire going downhill

The WLTP test runs for about 30m and we know that battery percentage displayed is dynamic... so they must have gotten way with generous maths calculations.

I think we have Honda e owners from Japan. Would be nice from them to comment on this.

My average, for a whole year, is 4.5 miles/kWh. (I have the 16" wheels.)

Impressive. Do you have the climate control on at all times?
I just don't see how I can achieve that sort of efficiency. I just did a 10 mile each way trip to the beach, 14 DegC, just me and the dog, a few miles of dual carriageway at 50-60mph and the rest on B roads, where I drove as carefully as I could, typically around 30mph, accelerating gently and lifting off at every opportunity. The car showed 3.7 going, 3.5 coming back.
My 800 mile average is showing 2.9 miles/kwh, but many of my journeys have been 2 or 3 miles max from cold during the winter where poor efficiency is expected.

My last 2 cars were BMW 3 lire 6 cylinders with ca 360HP and I never found it difficult to get high 30's occasional 40+ mpg on a run, with a long term average of 34.5mpg, so I know I can drive economically, but I just cant exceed 4 miles/kwh on a short run with the Honda e, driving as carefully and as slowly as possible.

I can't quite match Keith here, but that's me on 16s and OPD for the first two chunks of ownership driving across 5.5k (managed to now have that B trip reset yet, I use the A trip for recording each run between charges).

Clearly the 16 inch rims with energy efficient tyres have a definite benefit vs the 17 inch PS4 tyres.
Same question, is that with the climate control on at all times?

I have mine on at all times, the heater having a bigger drain on the battery than the aircon, but I did not think it might make the difference from 3.5 to 4.5 miles/kwh.
However looking at the range with and without climate under various conditions, a quick rough calculation suggests that maybe switching it off would increase efficiency to 4 miles/kwh

No, I only use it in the summer to cool the car down periodically as required and only during the winter to demist (use seat heaters and wheel warmer to stay warm).
