VIN number

According to google the last 4 digits of the vin indicates the number of production. Is this true?

I will get mine next week and the last 4 digits of my VIN is almost 3000. Does it mean that they produced around 3000 units till now?

So that Google fact only applies to USA and perhaps China?

Strange fact about JHM (Honda)
Happens to be My Mum's initials - so we managed to continue the trend with both our daughter's and son's names.

I also originally thought that the Wikipedia entry was USA only and wasn't going to post the link, yes it's USA centric but read on and you'll find that other country standards are also mentioned.
