Because laying a cable across the pavement would be a trip hazard (and likely damage the expensive cable when people, cyclists, wheelchair users, etc. run over the cable). It's strange to our eyes to see a Honda e without a bonnet charge lid, and for the charge cable to be inserted into the side of the car!

I wondered what happens to the cable when you unplug it. These diagrams from their website explains it a bit (and correctly show it plugging into the bonnet charge port on a Honda e):

Why they removed port and "plugged" it in no existing one :D

Only a very select few will realise.

It was probably decided by the marketing team and likely told the artist to put it in the side and if you asked 100,000 non EV owners (which this the target audience for this advert is), I doubt any would realise as they would all assume that all EVs charge on the side just like filling up an ICE car.

Congratulations, gents, we are the select few to realise :D

My question is why to use the E in the first place when the majority of EVs have the charging port in the desired place (or at least on the side)? But let's assume that the marketing team likes the design of the E and was assuming that the target audience won't realise. Then why bother removing the charging port from the bonnet?

By the way, who do you think the target audience is? I would assume that this should be aimed at existing or potential EV owners. And since the EV market is still mostly driven by early adopters / enthusiasts, it is bold to assume that these people won't know about the E or how it is charged.
