Fellow Honda e drivers, I’m purchasing a second EV, the Project 45 version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Will make a nice two car EV garage.
Two photos. Teal green exterior and teal and light grey interior.
Rather than my car and my wife’s car, we will have the local car and the long trip car

It would be great to see them side by side to get a good comparison of their relative sizes.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is due to be at the Fully Charged Live event next weekend where I'm hoping to get a test drive. This is likely to be a serious contended for our family car replacement.

What are the other contenders you may be considering?londiniumperson wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 1:15 pm The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is due to be at the Fully Charged Live event next weekend where I'm hoping to get a test drive. This is likely to be a serious contended for our family car replacement.
Still have an older diesel X5 that will be replaced within next two years by the right EV.
For that need good range / more luggage room / good winter traction to supplement the E.

There's going to be quite a few over the next 12 mths, but I'd be interested in Model 3 or Y, Skoda Enyaq, Mach-e, ID.4, Polestar 2, etc. It will be replacing a Euro6 diesel Tiguan but as 2 of our children have been 'adults' for a while & our youngest has just turned 16 then we shouldn't need such a big car next time. It will also depend who will be the main driver, my wife likes the seating position of an SUV, whereas I prefer something where you're sitting a lot lower. I realise that BEVs have the batteries under the floor so I'll be struggling to find something that I'll like, but maybe a Model 3 will be OK. I'd prefer it if the Honda seating position was lower but that's one of the comprises I had to accept.Highanddry wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 8:23 amWhat are the other contenders you may be considering?londiniumperson wrote: ↑Sat Aug 28, 2021 1:15 pm The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is due to be at the Fully Charged Live event next weekend where I'm hoping to get a test drive. The only other BEVs that I've driven are: MG ZS EV, Kia e-Niro & Polestar 2

The Project 45 is the AWD model. Goes well. Although not cheap , I think it’s reasonable value given range, battery, AWD, interior space, tech, design (inside and out) - in this respect I think it’s very Honda e like. Interesting exterior design and a lounge like interior. 5 year warranty.
I’m not a fan of the VW group offerings. Mustang Mach-E is good, but more expensive to get same performance and spec. Tesla 3 & Y both amazing vehicles, but I’m still not sure about the build or support service.
Polestar is definitely a contender, but test drive is difficult. Fully charged live?
I prefer the Ioniq over it’s sister Kia EV6 model (although this has a 7 year warranty)
Could wait for the Nissan Ariya? But older 400V tech
So it’s the 5 for me as our long distance cruiser vehicle. Pick up 1st so will report back

I managed to get a drive in the Ioniq 5 yesterday and it's amazingly efficient, I got 4.4m/kWh even with it at almost full charge, so regen was restricted as well as giving it full welly several times. If I'd driven the e in a similar style, then I very much doubt that I would have even got 3.4m/kWh.
I only had a short time in it but loved it, the only thing that I found annoying during the drive was that it has touch controls for air con temperature, etc without any haptic feedback. Also I only found the handbrake controls as I exited the car, with them on the far right hand side near the door out of sight during driving.

Saw the 5 in the flesh for the first time at Fully Charged Outside yesterday. For a car that I was seriously considering, having now seen the underwhelming boot space, I’ll have to rule it out. Boot on the ID.4 and Enyaq both considerably deeper, but I really dislike the ID interior, and I’m not convinced the Enyaq is good value for money (once spec’d up to match the others).
Saw the Ariya too (although couldn’t touch it because it was a roped off prototype) and think it’s probably one of the ugliest vehicles I’ve seen ever!
Such a shame all the new family sized models coming out are SUVs, which seem to me to be inverse-tardis designs where they’re way bigger on the outside than they should be, and the space inside is cramped.
Looks like I’ll be holding on to my petrol burning estate a for few years more.
